Lester Leonard Hale was born July 6, 1913 in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. After a stint as an instructor of speech at Louisiana State University, where he received his Master's (1935) and doctoral (1942) degrees, he joined the University of Florida's Dept. of Speech in 1935. From 1935 to 1939 he was also director of the Florida Players. In 1956, he was appointed Dean of Men and was promoted to Dean of Student Affairs in 1960.
